In an effort to “fuel the warmer days ahead,” Starbucks announced on Tuesday that stores nationwide will now offer Organic Avocado Spread, ready to be smeared atop any and all of your favorite breakfast food items. The extra-smooth spread, which was previously available only in select markets, is made from fresh, organic Hass avocados, sea salt, onion, garlic, jalapeño pepper, and lime juice. It sounds pretty close to guacamole, which isn’t something we’re upset about.
Another aspect of the spread that the Internet has been quick to point out: It’s green. Like, really green. So green, in fact, that some avocado aficionados are calling out the color as a little odd. Others, however, are crazy for the new spread.
Clearly, it’s not easy being green. Along with this momentous avocado announcement, Starbucks has also created a few other new menu items. The chain’s health kick doesn’t begin and end with avocado spread: Starbucks introduced a Gluten-Free Smoked Canadian Bacon Breakfast Sandwich, the first gluten-free sandwich it has ever offered. Other new selections include the Sprouted Grain Bagel, a vegan bagel topped with whole grain oats, brown and golden flax, sunflower seeds and wheat (it probably goes great with avocado spread!); Lemon Chiffon Yogurt; Berry Trio Yogurt; Peanut Butter Cup Cookie; and a Parrot Cake Pop, which is decorated as colorfully as it’s avian namesake. There are also a few new packaged food options: Country Archer Jerky, Droga Money on Honey Dark Chocolate French Sea Salt, Bissinger’s Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Mini, and Goodie Girl Mint Slims.
