Chrissy Teigen knows how to throw a party. At least, that’s what she proves while mixing up boozy drinks on a sunny Thursday afternoon. “Thanks for coming out for cocktails in the middle of the day,” she says to the crowd. “Now go back to work and pretend you’re not drunk.”
Teigen is one of those rare famous people that actually says what she means and does what she wants. She’s not afraid to make her voice heard on twitter, or put her feet up on the couch while sitting through interviews, and it’s clear that she’s someone who loves to have a good time.
Which is why we figured she’d have great cocktail recommendations. While promoting her partnership with Smirnoff, Teigen told SELF about three of her go-to drinks. Much like her, they’re straightforward, classic, and you’re probably going to love them.
Brunch time is Bloody Mary time.
When it comes to casual drinking, Teigen normally sticks to vodka sodas. “If I could only drink one cocktail for the rest of my life it would have to be a vodka soda,” she tells SELF. Much like her public persona indicates, the supermodel always prefers salty to sweet. “I just don’t tend to gravitate towards sweet drinks,” she explains, “not because of the calories, but because I get really sensitive to all that sugar.”
But at brunch, she’s a big fan of Bloody Marys. “Really spicy Bloody Marys,” she specifies.
Dirty martinis with blue cheese olives (um, yum) will always have a place in heart.
“Everyone tries to sell me on Manhattans or pomegranate martinis, but I like a good dirty martini,” says Teigen. One filled with blue cheese-stuffed olives at that. Just be careful with those, she warns. “They really sneak up on you.”
She swears by DIY punch bowls for big gatherings.
Part of what makes Teigen’s cookbook, Cravings, so great is that it’s clear she loves to eat and is really passionate about home cooking and good food. Which is why you’ll never catch her using store-bought lemonade or fruit juice for large-batch party cocktails. No, for parties, she kicks things off with huge punch bowls, made entirely from scratch.
“I think a homemade punch is really, really beautiful and there’s something really special about it,” Teigen explains. Though the types of cocktails she puts into her punch bowls change all the time, one thing about them that doesn’t is the fact that she fills them with whole, gorgeous ingredients: berries, cinnamon sticks, lemon slices—the prettier they are, the better. Another thing she likes to do is set out a bar of optional toppings for guests to add to their punch themselves.
