If you enjoy racking up Starbucks Stars (aka loyalty rewards points) every time you visit the coffee chain, get ready for your reward collection to go supernova. Starting today, customers purchasing Starbucks products in grocery stores can now earn Stars, which previously could only be earned in Starbucks and Teavana stores and on Starbucks’ website.
Grocery store products that are now Star-eligible include Starbucks’ K-Cup packs, individual ready-to-drink bottled beverages, multi-serve chilled coffees, packaged roast and ground coffee, VIA instant coffee, and VIA instant refreshers beverages. Based on the Stars breakdown on Starbucks’ website, these products will range from a 2-Star to a 25-Star value.
To earn Stars in your supermarket, Starbucks explains that you have to take a photo of your receipt and either upload it to their website, or text or email the image to them. Yes, it’s kind of an old-school way to redeem points—especially compared to how baristas can just scan your phone in Starbucks stores—but hey, we’ll take more Stars whatever way we can get them.
If you’re not familiar with the Loyalty program, you may want to hop aboard the bandwagon: Members get access to several awesome perks, including a free birthday reward, the ability to order ahead, the ability to pay by phone, free refills, and more. Once you rack up 300 Stars, you officially achieve Gold status, meaning you can earn free menu items for every 125 Stars you collect, as well as a fancy monogrammed gold card and exclusive access to special perks that pop up. Unicorn/Mermaid Frappuccinos for all!
